Welcome to the Alan Holyoak retirement celebration tour - Fall 2022.
I thought that it would be fun to frame this trip like the tour for a rock band, and so that means I needed a band, and that band needed a name. I consistently told my Invertebrate Zoology students that if I ever had a band that I had the perfect name for it - THE MUD DRAGONS! (Cool name...+5 to +10 extra credit points!)
Mud dragons are the common name of a highly obscure group of animals scientifically called the Kinorhyncha (sorry, you'll have to look them up if you want to know more).
And so, Big Al and The Mud Dragons are hitting the road, i.e., I am, on an extended road trip starting on Oct 6th to celebrate my recent retirement. So, this is where you will be able to read all about where I go and what I do. I'll do my best to add a new posting every night along the way.
To give you a hint of what's coming, I plan to be on the road for 34 days, pass through parts of 20-21 states, visit 8-9 national parks and a smattering of national monuments, museums, and other points of interest. I will also see family members, friends, and former roommates along the way. I plan to drive from Idaho to Washington DC along a more northerly route, and back along a southerly one.
Blog header photo credit: Janeese Summers. Every year Janeese works her Photoshop magic by inserting the faces of family and friends on the bodies of other people. If you look closely, you will see that I am the center character in the rock band. It's a hoot! Thanks Janeese!! Oh, and the other members of the band are friends of mine.
