Day 14 - 19 Oct - Good times in and around Buckeye AZ

I had a fantastic day #1 with my daughter Lindsey and her family in and around Buckeye/Phoenix.

The first outing was two-fold.  Lindsey enjoys going to a fabric outlet center in the Phoenix area, but children are not allowed.  So, she dropped my grandson and I off at a place that she knew I'd love.  And she was right.  So, where did she drop us?  Zia Record Exchange.

As you know, I've been to a handful of used bookstores that also sell secondhand DVDs, usually a wall's worth of them, but when I walked into Zia - HOLY COW!!!  The pic below shows just the DVD section of the store.  Zia also has sections for music, games, books...wow!

In case you didn't already know, one of my hobbies is building a collection of movies, mostly DVDs and BluRay discs.  My movie collection is something I've been enjoying since my college days.  It's rare when I can find more than one to a few titles to add from a single location.  And today I added two more.

My grandson is my daughter's good little shopping buddy, and today he was mine.  He stayed right next to me the entire time as I shuffled from rack to rack looking and looking to see what I could see.

As soon as we got back, it was time for my older grandson to get home from school (he's in kindergarten), and my grandsons and I played some Super Mario Kart.

But wait, there's more!

After my son-in-law was done with work, we all headed south to Gila Bend AZ to eat out at the SPACE AGE RESTAURANT!

BTW, the reason the place is pretty much empty in the pix is because we got there shortly before 5pm.  We beat the dinner crowd.  It was completely retro, and looked and felt a lot more like something you'd find near Roswell NM than just south of Phoenix.  :-D

But wait...there's more.  Just down the road from the Space Age Restaurant is a gas station with a few unique attractions...

So if anyone ever tells you that there's nothing to do in Gila Bend AZ, you can roll your eyes and think about the Space Age Restaurant and the roaming life-sized dinosaurs just down the road.

Cheers!
