Sorry about those of you who were pacing and pacing last night, waiting for the posting for Day 7 of The Mud Dragons' adventures on the road. I just didn't get to it last night, because my brother-in-law hosts a board game night every Wednesday, and this week I was able to join in. We played until after 11pm. More on that later.
So, here we go.
As I had for the past few days, I spent the morning on the back deck of my bro-in-law and sister's place, just thinking, relaxing, and writing...you know, things like this blog :-).
Here's why I enjoy the deck so much.
Well, those of you who known me well, know that when I'm at home and the weather is nice enough, the deck is probably my favorite place to be. And the photo above gives you an idea of my sister's deck. It's absolutely wonderful out here on fall mornings. The blue skies, a gentle breeze, birds calling in the trees, and perfect temps...wow, what more could anyone want!?
On 10/12, we celebrated Gpa Mud Dragon's (my dad's) birthday. He passed away in Dec 2018, but we wanted to do something that he liked. So, my mom, sister and I headed to Wendy's - his favorite place to go for a bite to eat.
My mom said that he'd usually order a chili and a Frosty or a burger and a Frosty...you know, pretty much anything and a Frosty. :-)
That was a good outing. Happy BDay Dad!!
Later in the day, I played gigs at two locations. The first one was a place called FYE, a store in the local mall. FYE stands for, For Your Entertainment.
As you may know, I love movies and I have a movie collection, so I'm always on the lookout for another good title to add. FYE did have a lot of titles, but the way the movie racks were laid out, you would have to work REALLY hard to see what was there. Plus, the prices were generally above the price point I'm willing to pay for a used disc. So, after maybe 30 minutes, I pulled the plug and bugged out of there.
BTW, FYE was located in the local shopping mall. I don't know what it's like where you live, but I've visited several malls over the last few years, and many of these are dying slow, painful deaths. Malls used to be THE PLACE to go, not just to shop, but to hang out until online shopping has grabbed so much of the retail market. It's sad, but, I suppose inevitable that malls will continue to dwindle.
I decided that since I was already out and about, that I'd play another gig...this time at a place called Half-Price Books. They also sell movies.
This place is a winner! The selection was great, and the prices were reasonable. I spent a couple of enjoyable hours there, picked up one movie and a couple of books. In fact, there are several of these stores in the area, who knows? Maybe visits to other locations are in the cards for me. Only time will tell.
My bro-in-law is very creative, and he's been working to generate more fellowship among men who belong to the men's group (Elder's Quorum) at the Church he goes to. So, some time ago, he initiated Wednesday Wings. He would go to a local restaurant that sold wings, pizza, etc., and invited everyone from the group to join him there. The group that shows up isn't large, maybe 4-5 guys, but they have a good time. I was able to go and join in...I chose KC BBQ wings...YUM!
Also on Wednesdays, as I mentioned above, he hosts a weekly game night. Last night there was an extra seat at the gaming table so I sat in. It was fun. We played a game I'd never heard of before. Let's just say that Randy (my bro-in-law) is a board game aficionado.
We played two rounds of...
I won't go into the details of the game, except that say that this is a cooperative game...you all win or you all die! We made a bold gamble and died...dead, dead, dead. Then we played again, a little bit wiser, and we actually beat the final boss all three times and won the game! VICTORY!!
Then, we still had some time so we played a second, pretty lightweight game.
As you can see in the photo above, I'm using ALL the power of my brain to try to figure out what's going on and not bring the rest of the gaming group regulars down :-D. It wasn't that bad, in fact it was a good time!
And, for all the board gamers, and wannabe board gamers, this is what a true gamer's game room looks like. A friend made Randy this cool, custom gaming table, and you can see some of his games in the shelving. What you can't see are the 4+ other shelving units that hold more games. Plus, as long as I'm crushing on this room, he also has 4 or 5 3D printers that he uses to make his own figurines, environments, etc., for many games that he plays. Oh, and I especially like the snack bar in the background, featuring a popcorn machine and candy dispensers, as well as a mini-fridge stocked with sodas. Randy rocks!!
We played until about 11pm. By that time of night my brain's shutting down/already shut down, so this posting had to wait until today.
And that was Day 7 of The Mud Dragons' Fall Tour.
